near Paris, Edgar Co., Ill.; Lovina married Henry Holton, of Ohio; Sarah A. married Chauncey Jones, of Dana, Ill.; Mary Jane became the wife of Samuel McCaughey, of Mutual, Ohio; Susan, Mrs. Granville Smith, is a resident of the same place; the next was George, our subject. Absalom Bane departed this life in 1864. His wife survived him sixteen years, dying in 1880. She was an estimable Christian lady, and a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
George Bane was reared in Champaign County, Ohio, and received his early education in the district schools of his native county. The schoolhouse was at a long distance from his home, and he was eleven years old before he commenced attendance there, his first text-book being an elementary
