Dennis O'Connor, b. Mar. 1835, d. Oct 27 1919

Oskaloosa Herald - 03nov1919 - Dennis O'Connor. Was born March 17, A.D. 1836, in County Clare, Ireland, and departed this life October 27, A.D. 1919, at his residence, No. 507 South Market street. He came to our county with his father and family in boyhood. The family lived near Rose Hill, this county, many years. Dennis worked on the farm and in winter made fence rails and cut wood. When the War of Rebellion came on he was in the South, but at once retuned to the state of Indiana, and enlisted in Co. B, 10th Regiment Inft., Ind. Vols. He served his full time and was discharged at Atlanta, Ga., yet declined to return home, and marched with Sherman's men to the sea, and was mustered out with his regiment at Louisville, Ky. He returned to his home and on October 20, A. D. 1870, married Susanna Curell, a neighbor girl. They made a new home near the old place. Two children were born to them- Charles, a son, who died in infancy, and a daughter, Aria, who survives her father. The wife and mother departed this life January 31, A. D. 1919, and rests in the family lot in Forest cemetery. Dennis O'Connor is survived by one sister, Catharine Bump, residing in Oklahoma. Patrick, an only brother, and Mary Hansel, a sister, have passed over. Fletcher and Clarence Bump, nephews, residing near Rose Hill, Iowa, and other nephews and nieces survive him. Deceased lived in this county nearly 70 years. He was an honest, industrious citizen, above reproach, and a true and brave soldier. He was a member of Phil Kearney Post, G. A. R., of this city, which had charge of the last rites. He was laid to rest in the family lot in Forest cemetery, with all the rites and honors due a departed soldier of this Republic.

Oskaloosa Herald - 30 Oct 1919- O'CONNER. - Dennis O'Conner, aged 83 years, 7 months and 10 days, passed away Monday, October 27, 1919, at 2 p.m. at his home, No. 507 South Market street of old age and arterio sclerosis, after an illness of eight months. Funeral services at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the home. Interment in Forest Cemetery.
