George Hansel was born in Stark county, Ohio, Jan. 10, 1824. He moved to
Iowa with his parents in early childhood settling in Louisa county. They
moved to Mahaska a few years later and settled in Monroe township where he
has made his home ever since. In 1855 he was united in marriage with Mrs.
Leiah McMahan. Three children were born of this union, two having died in
infancy. His first wife departed this life July 3, 1880 <1?>, and on March
1, 1882 <1?>, he was again united in marriage with Miss Lizzie Rudkin. He
united with the Christian church in 1875 and has been a faithful member ever
since. He was a soldier in the Civil War, serving three years and three
months. He died at his home in Monroe township Feb. 20, 1903, aged 79 years,
1 month and 10 days. He leaves a wife, one son, to brothers and one
sister to mourn his death. The funeral was held from the residence conducted
by Rev. G. M. Vallandingham and interment at Bedwell cemetery.
